Description
Slingjaw Wrasse And Damselfish Among Corals. I have captured only twice the wonderful yellow colored Slingjaw Wrasse. It is the big fish in the middle. This one is female. The male is brown colored. This fish is found over drop-offs and along deep slopes in lagoons and seaward reefs rich in coral growth.
The fish feed on coral dwelling crustaceans and fish.
The mouth of this wrasse extends like a telescope to half the length of it's own body when catching prey.
Epibulus insidiator in latin. It is native to the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea and the African coast to the Tuamotus and Hawaii, and from the southern waters of Japan to New Caledonia.
The smaller yellow fish, three of them in this photo, is the Sulphur Damsel, also called Yellow Damsel. In latin Pomacentrus sulfureus. I added color on the grey stones and beige corals. Otherwise this is a natural photo.
